Caribbean Identity

Unit 1 Module 1 - Sociology, Culture & Identity

The Caribbean identity

Summary

The Caribbean identity has been formed through a variety of forces, migration (forced, tricked or voluntary), inter- ethnic breeding, geo-spatially, politically etc...

In the same manner that the forces are varied that helped to create a sense of self, so too is the understanding of what constitutes the self. Hence we note there is not one singular Caribbean identity, since the face and ethnic mixture and hereditary line may be complex and multiple. Instead we adhere to the notion that there may be more than one Caribbean identities.
